Plot Summary
The episode begins with Monica, Joey, Chandler, and Phoebe sitting at Central Perk, a coffee shop. They are joined by Ross, who has just divorced his wife Carol after she revealed that she is a lesbian. Ross is depressed and worries that he will never find love again. Meanwhile, Rachel, Monica's high school friend, enters the coffee shop in a wedding dress. She has just run away from her wedding to Barry, a wealthy orthodontist, because she realized that she does not love him. She recognizes Monica and asks for her help. Monica agrees to let Rachel stay with her at her apartment and introduces her to the rest of the gang. Rachel decides to cut off her ties with her family and start a new life in the city. She gets a job as a waitress at Central Perk and begins to learn how to be independent.
